Artist, garden designer and educator Eric Stewart lives in Accord, NY, where he paints, designs gardens and serves on the board of directors of both the Woodstock Artists Association and the Stone Ridge Center for the Arts.

Born in Albuquerque, NM, Stewart is a graduate of Baylor University, where he earned a BA in journalism and commercial art.   In 1987, Stewart moved to NYC where he pursued a career in public and media relations.  He began painting in 1994 after returning to his native New Mexico to live in Santa Fe.  Later, he moved back to Manhattan, where he pursued his painting in many forms including fine art, crafts, graphic design, murals, set designs and decorative finishes for interiors.  In 1998, Stewart received an MA in education from Hunter College, City University of New York.  He went on to teach both English and art in inner-city public schools for several years before relocating to Ulster County fulltime in 2001. 

Recently Stewart’s work has been seen in numerous exhibitions in the area including Deborah Davis Fine Art in Hudson, the Woodstock Artists Association in Woodstock, Arts Upstairs Gallery in Phonecia, the Stone Ridge Center for the Arts, and various other public venues in the region.  Previously he has shown his work throughout northern New Mexico and the greater NYC area and has been represented by Galleries Je Reviens in Westport, CT, and Gallery SAI in Manhattan.  His crafts and painted furnishings have also been featured in many boutiques and galleries including the Museum Shop at the Museum of American Folk Art in Manhattan.  Through collaboration with Dragon Productions of Amsterdam, his set designs have been featured in modern dance productions in New York, Holland and Belgium.
